- There's no catch. StudySalary is free to use. The app is guest-first and locally driven — your progress lives in your browser, not on an expensive server. Optional sign-in (for cloud sync) is the only value-add, and that's also free.
- Does 'free' mean limited features?
- No. Guest mode has access to the full timer, virtual salary, portfolio, Focus Room, ambient sounds, Salary Cat, Study City, streaks, badges, and decor. Everything described on this page is available from the first session with no account.
- Do I have to create an account?
- No. Guest mode is the default and your progress saves to your browser automatically. Signing in (optional, via Google or a magic link) only adds cloud sync across devices. Signing in never requests access to your email content or any sensitive Google scope.
- How is my data stored if there's no account?
- Your data is saved to localStorage in your browser under a guest ID. It persists across sessions until you clear your browser data. Signing in moves that data to Supabase cloud storage under your account, so it's available on other devices — but locally, it's always there first.
- Does the timer keep running if I switch browser tabs?
- Yes. The timer records an expected end-time rather than counting ticks, so it stays accurate when you switch tabs, minimize the window, or lock your screen. The browser tab title shows a live countdown so you can check it at a glance.
